The Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanaimo area is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island about 2 hours drive north of the provincial capital of Victoria. Vancouver Island is accessible from the mainland by ferry from Vancouver, Seattle and Port Angeles, or by air.
There are 2 major ferry terminals in Nanaimo and airports in Cassidy (just south of Nanaimo) and Qualicum Beach. The ferry ride from Vancouver to Nanaimo is a scenic 90 minute ride across the Strait of Georgia through the Gulf Islands.

Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't rain all the time on Vancouver Island. The summers on the east coast of the island are actually quite warm & dry.
Mid summer temperatures can reach into the 30's celcius or 90's farenheit. The misconception about the rain on the west coast comes from the fact that the city of Vancouver (on the mainland) is nestled at the base of the Coast Mountains and as the clouds rise to clear the mountains, they get rain.
As we are on the leeward side of the Vancouver Island range we are protected from the rain. The winters are tempered by the Alaska current in the Pacific Ocean which brings warm water up from the equator. This makes the winter months relatively mild with snow at sea level rather rare.

With expansive beaches, lush old growth forests, spectacular waterfalls, and abundant wildlife all set with a backdrop of snow capped mountains, central Vancouver Island is a super-natural wonder. There are few places in the world where you can ski and golf in the same day.
